OpenAI is rolling out Health in ChatGPT, a feature where the user can connect Apple Health and some US patient records. ChatGPT can then use the data to explain changes over time, summarize information and help the user prepare questions before a healthcare visit.

The rollout begins for logged-in users who are at least 18 years old and located in the United States. The feature is available on the web and in iOS for Free, Go, Plus and Pro. It is not available in Sweden and is not in the Codex. OpenAI does not specify a date for more countries.

The user chooses which sources are connected and when the data may be used. By default, ChatGPT asks for permission before using connected medical records or Apple Health data in a response. It is also possible to grant permanent access, which turns off the recurring questions.

OpenAI states that connected medical records, Apple Health data and conversations using them do not train the company's underlying models and are not used for targeted advertising. If a source is disconnected, synchronized data must be deleted from OpenAI within 30 days. However, health information that is already in the chat history remains until the conversation is deleted.

The information may be incomplete or out of date. For example, a medication may remain after the user has stopped taking it. OpenAI therefore says that important data should be checked against the original and that ChatGPT can make mistakes.

The feature should support, not replace, the judgment of the healthcare staff. Anyone not covered by the US rollout should not attempt to circumvent country or account restrictions to share sensitive health data.

Därför spelar det roll

Health data is among the most sensitive information an AI service can receive. The news shows how AI assistants go from general questions to personal records and metrics. For Swedish users, the practical conclusion is to distinguish between what is actually here and what has only been launched in the US.

Det här kan du göra

  1. Always check the country, age requirements and subscription before counting on a new function.
  2. Compare medications, test results and dates with the original medical record before using the information.
  3. Let healthcare professionals assess symptoms, diagnoses and treatments. Do not use ChatGPT as a substitute for care.
